585,632. Machinery guards. TAYLOR & CHALLEN, Ltd., and CHALLEN, H. D. July 6, 1944, No. 12891. [Class 80 (iv)] In power-operated presses, especially of the kind described in Specification 540,920, the press guard is linked to a cam-operated mechanism which serves to apply or causes to be applied a brake band to the crankshaft of the press to prohibit the stroke of the press ram until the guard is in the closed position. A brake j on the crankshaft o of a press a is controlled by a guard b acting through levers c, d, f. The lower portion of lever f carries a roller f<3> which in its normal position is clear of a cam n on the shaft o. When the gate b' of the guard b is raised the roller f<3> is urged into the dwell n' of the cam n and at the same time the brake is engaged by the links f, g, h, thus bringing the press to a stop.
