Abstract

552,980. Hydraulic presses. KIRKSTALL FORGE, Ltd., and COWELL, F. R. June 30, 1942, No. 8998. [Class 69 (ii)] A single-acting hydraulic press in which a diehead 12 attached to a moving cylinder 13 is moved to working position under control of a valve operated by a spring-controlled lever 28 and a pedal mechanism 22 ... 27, and is returned when the valve is closed by a weight 16 or a spring is constructed so as to prevent shock at the end of the return movement. To this end a cam 34 carried by a crosshead 11 moving with the die is arranged to act upon a roller 33 mounted in the lever 28 so as to open the valve momentarily and admit pressure which slows up the moving portion of the press. The cam 34 is shaped to permit the lever 28 to return quickly.
