[Also in Division F1 A hand lever operated tube or rod bending machine includes a housing 7 which acts as a reservoir for a horizontal jack cylinder 24 containing a piston 28 and to which cylinder oil from the reservoir is forced by the displacement of a reciprocatable plunger 42 actuated by the hand lever 8, the lift or retraction of the plunger drawing oil from the reservoir via a non-return valve 47 into the bore 45 in which the plunger 42 moves and the reverse movement of the plunger displacing the oil from the said bore 45 via another non-return valve 50 into the cylinder 24, means being provided to release the oil from the cylinder 24 after a work-performing operation and comprising a spring-loaded release valve 33 which, under the influence of its spring, closes a discharge passage 34, from the cylinder 24, during a working operation, said release valve 33 being actuated by a push-rod 35 to open position, means 36 to actuate said pushrod by the displacement of the hand lever 8 beyond the normal full working stroke of the hand lever, and stop means 44 to prevent the movement of the hand lever 8 beyond the full working stroke and adjustable to permit further displacement of the hand lever beyond its working stroke movement to actuate the release valve 33 to the open position. The working stroke of the lever 8 is determined by engagement of the lever 8 with a rectangular sectioned stop 44 which is adjusted about its axis to allow the lever 8 to move beyond its working stroke to actuate the push-rod 35. The piston 28 of the jack may operate upon a head 9 carrying a roller 10 bearing against a back forming bar 11 pressing on a tube 12 to be bent on a former 1 journalled at 2 as described in Specification 913,784, to which reference is made. Alternatively, the jack may urge a former between a pair of laterally spaced abutments, the work being located between the former and the abutments.
