Abstract

699,348. Shearing. BLOEM, R. Aug. 4, 1950 [April 13, 1950], No. 19572/50. Class 83 (iv). A hydraulic shearing apparatus comprising a piston 2 moving in a cylinder 3 fed with liquid by a pump 4 and having an aperture 8 permitting the escape of the liquid until a valve 9 sliding in the piston has been brought into a position in which it blocks the aperture 8, is provided on the one hand with a means capable of bringing the valve into the position to block the aperture under the control of an external adjusting member, which as shown comprises a spring 10 and a valve-actuating rod 14 operated by a lever 15, when the piston is at the end of its stroke towards the aperture, and on the other hand with a means capable of removing the valve from its blocking position under the control of the position of the piston and possibly also under the control of the hydrostatic pressure in the cylinder while the piston is moving out; the means as shown comprises a spring 18 interposed between the end 27 of the piston 2 and the end 13 of the valve 9. The spring 18 is shorter, when fully expanded, than the distance between the ends 13, 27 in the instroke position of the piston. Projections 25 on the piston limit the instroke position of the piston. The piston is urged towards its instroke position by a spring 20.
