Abstract

721,335. Hydraulic presses. LANGEN. STEIN UND SCHEMANN AKT.-GES. Oct- 15, 1952 [Oct. 27, 1951; Out. 27, 1951; Oct. 27, 1951], No. 25818/52. Class 69 (2). [Also in Group XXII] In a hydraulic press having a large preliminary filling valve 6 the opening movement of which is controllable by a piston 7 movable in a control cylinder 9 against the pressure of a closing spring 11, the control cylinder is in constant communication via pipes 12, 14 with an annular space 4 operating as a return cylinder for the ram 2. The piston 7 has a crosshead 10 having holes or slats therein in order that it may act as a damping device during reciprocating movement of the valve 6. When the pump 13 is adjusted via linkage 20 and control rod 18 to deliver pressure fluid into pipe 15, the ram 2 is forced downwards and the valve 6 will close automatically with build-up of pressure in the working chamber 3. The valve 6 is surrounded by a hood 6b immersed in the tank 38 in order to prevent the suction of air. When the pump 13 is adjusted to deliver into pipe 14 and space 4 to retract the ram, pressure fluid also flows into pipe 12 and cylinder 9 to act on the piston 7 to open the valve 6. When the pump is adjusted via control rod 18 to its neutral position, the ram will be held stationary. The rod 18 is actuated by a hand lever 16 which may be locked in position by a fitting 32, or may be actuated by a tappet thereon engaging an arm which moves with the ram. By actuating a valve 28 the space 4 may be exhausted through a pipe 39 and the press operated as a drop hammer [see Group XXII).
