Abstract
1,131,288. Hydraulic systems. BONSER ENG. Ltd. March 23, 1967 [Dec. 28, 1965], No.54896/65. Heading F1P. A piston 27 is movable in steps along a cylinder 26 by supplying liquid to a cylinder chamber 33 to move the piston 27 into abutment with a stop piston 31 prevented from moving by liquid trapped in a cylinder chamber 35. The space 34 between the pistons 27, 31 is connected to atmosphere through a passage 36 in a piston rod 28. To re-position the stop piston 31 in preparation for the next movement step of the piston 27 and rod 28, a changeover valve 11 is reversed whereby a spring 32 disposed between the pistons 27, 31 reacts against the piston 27 and the liquid trapped in the cylinder chamber 33 by the valve 11 to move the stop piston 31 to the position shown where it engages an abutment 29 adjustably fixed to the rod 28, the liquid in the cylinder chamber 35 displayed by the stop piston 31 being exhausted through the valve 11. In an alternative arrangement Fig. 1 (not shown), the piston and cylinder is of conventional construction and the exhaust from one side of the piston is delivered to another cylinder (6) and presses a spring loaded piston against an adjustable stop (24) the thus trapped liquid preventing further movement.
