Abstract

[Also in Division F2] In a roof support system a swing-up cylinder device for moving a cantilevered bar 3 pivoted to a support bar 2 comprises a pressure-fluid cylinder 7, connected pivotally to the bar 2 at 2a, in which works a piston 8 having a rod 10 connected pivotally to the bar 3 at 24 a fluid chamber 26 connected by a valve system to the cylinder 7 so that on movement of.. the piston .8 .into the cylinder. 7 fluid passes therefrom into the chamber 26 and on opposite movement of the piston 8 the fluid passes from the chamber 26 into cylinder 7 and a compression spring 19 biasing the piston 8 to its fully-extended position. A further piston 14 works in the chamber 26 and is biased by a spring 16 to eject fluid from it into the cylinder 7. The spring 19 thus lifts the bar 3 connected to the device at 24 the ends of it being connected to the rod 10 and cylinder 7. The valve system comprises two oppositely-acting non- return valves 20, 21 in passages through the piston 8. The system may include more than one bar 2, each associated with a bar 3 and a device as above. The bar 3 has a roof support plate 4 pivoted to it at 4a. On full extension of the piston 8 the plate 4 is slightly higher than the top of the bar 2.
