819,353. Pneumatic single-stroke apparatus. TRYTHALL, W. J. C. Nov. 12, 1956 [Nov. 11, 1955], No. 32362/55. Class 8(2). [Also in Group XXXII] Cushioning of a compressed air actuated piston 10a having an oil-filled tubular rod 12a projecting through one end of the cylinder 11a and having sealing members 22a bounding an oil space 23a is initiated when flow of oil through ports 26, 27 at opposite sides of a piston 15a fixed to a stationary tube 15 is controlled by an axially adjustable plunger valve 25 having an annular groove 28 which when connecting the ports 26, 27 allows maximum rate of movement of the main piston 10a; cushioning being effected by partial blocking of the ports 26, 27 and locking by complete blocking of said ports. The plunger valve may be actuated by an air piston 32 or by a solenoid.
