Abstract
1,044,280. Fluid pressure apparatus; regulating I.C. engines. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIV-UND MASCHINENFABRIK. Oct. 19, 1964 [Oct. 17, 1963], No: 42589/64. Headings FIB and F1P. An apparatus. Fig. 1 (not shown) for controlling, e.g. a diesel engine speed control 23, comprises a cylinder containing a plurality of telescopically arranged pistons 52, 55 each arranged to be separately or together movable therein, through differing strokes against the action of springs 56-59 to thereby impart a corresponding movement to a piston rod 60 associated with the speed control 23. The strokes of the pistons 52-55 are in the ratio 1:2:4:8 and each is operated by compressed air supplied thereto through solenoid valves 37-40 from a pipe 46. A controller 21 having a lever 20 movable to fifteen distinct positions, is in each position, arranged to energize a particular solenoid valve or combination of solenoid valves, whereby fifteen corresponding positions of the piston rod 60 are achieved. In a second construction (Fig. 3, not shown) the pistons are of equal diameter and are provided with telescoped piston rods.
