Abstract
856,872. Liquid-pressure engines. STANHAY (ASHFORD) Ltd., and CRUTTENDEN, V. Jan. 2, 1957 [Jan. 23, 1956], No. 2207/56. Class 69 (2). Premature actuation of the spool of a distributing valve, which is actuated by a piston of a liquidpressure engine at each end of its stroke, is prevented by the application thereto of liquid pressure derived from the exhaust side of the piston. The liquid-pressure engine comprises a double-acting piston 6 reciprocated by liquid supplied from an inlet 1 under the control of a valve spool 18. At each end of the stroke the valve spool is actuated by means of members 16 carried by the piston-rod acting through springs 15 on abutments 17 on the spool. Movement of the valve spool, e.g. to the left, causes liquid exhausting from the motor through a passage 8 to be drawn through a restricted passage 13 into an end chamber 11, 12, and this liquid is subsequently prevented from escaping from the end chamber by the liquid exhausting from the motor through passage 8. When the piston slows down at the end of its stroke, liquid can escape from the end chamber and the compressed spring 15 is able to shift the spool to its other end position. An identical arrangement is provided at the other end of the valve to prevent premature actuation in the reverse direction.
