Abstract

1392296 Rotary positive-displacement machines A R B NASH 28 June 1972 [2 July 1971] 31187/71 Heading F1F An oscillating vane actuator comprises means on each side wall 10 for restricting outflow of fluid from the respective chamber and means for further restricting the outflow so as to damp the piston movement at the end thereof. Each wall 10 has a main port 16 and a bleed port 18. A throttling plate 20, with a restricted orifice 24 in register with port 16, can be forced away from wall 10 by inlet fluid, but is held against wall 10 when the respective chamber 8b is exhausting so as to provide a restricted outflow through orifice 24. Mounted by bolts 26 with plate 20 is a leafspring 32 which carries a hairpin spring 30, one arm 30a of which carries a loosely mounted valve member 28. The other arm 30b is engaged by piston 2 when it moves to diminish the respective chamber 8b and at a certain point, through the action of piston 2 on spring 30, the valve member engages plate 20 to close the orifice, thus permitting flow only through bleed port 18 so as to damp piston movement. An alternative embodiment is described, Fig. 5 (not shown). Instead of needle valve 36 a one-way valve may be used Fig. 3 (not shown).
