Abstract
1372813 Hot gas engines; compressed gas engines FORENADE FABRIKSVERKEN 27 March 1973 14593/73 Heading F1M and F1S The invention relates to a hot gas engine having power output control by varying the mean pressure of the working gas and provided with a compressor 10 for pumping working gas from the engine 1 to a reservoir 8 during decrease of power output. According to the invention the compressor is a free-piston compressor comprising a differential piston unit having a larger diameter piston 11 and a smaller diameter piston 13 interconnected by a piston rod 12, there are means for controlling a supply of working gas at the maximum pressure which occurs during the working cycle alternately first to one side and then to the other side of the larger diameter piston so that the differential piston unit reciprocates and the smaller diameter piston works in a cylinder 26 connected to the reservoir and to a working chamber of the engine through non- return valves 28, 29 so that working gas is passed from the working chamber into the reservoir when the engine power output is being reduced. The means for controlling the supply of working gas includes a solenoid actuated valve 16 and switches 24, 25 actuated by the piston unit.
