Abstract

The movable jaw 4 of a jaw crusher is supported by a carriage 6 movable rectilinearly along guide means 8 towards and away from a fixed jaw 3, the reciprocating motion being effected by at least one piston and cylinder assembly 12 which is disposed with its thrust line in alignment with the direction of jaw motion and reacts directly against the crusher frame. As shown in Fig. 2, the carriage has a cylindrical portion 7 which is axially slidable on bearings 9 within a casing 8. Single-acting hydraulic piston and cylinder assemblies 12 are mounted on a back-plate 10 to effect the crushing stroke of the jaw 4, the return stroke being effected by action of a rod 15 and compression spring. Hydraulic fluid to the assemblies is supplied from a continuously-running pump through control valves operated by pilot valves which are tripped when the jaw reaches each end of its stroke; adjustment of the stroke may be effected by altering the position of trip. Flow-restriction means may be provided in the hydraulic system for controlling the rate of jaw movement. The jaw pressure is limited by means of a relief valve and, if desired, several relief valves may be employed each set at a different pressure and arranged in the hydraulic system so that any selected one can be brought into operation at a time. Instead of using relief valves to control the pressure, an accumulator may be employed. A modification, Fig. 4, shows the movable jaw 25 supported by a carriage 26 slidable in guide bushes 27, 28 on the frame. The crushing stroke of the jaw in this case is effected by the action of springs 32 and the return stroke by piston and cylinder assemblies 35 mounted on a back-plate 31. If desired, singleacting piston and cylinder assemblies may be mounted between the back-plate 31 and carriage 26 so as to assist the action of the springs; with this arrangement the hydraulic power necessary for the crushing stroke can be arranged to be the same as that for the return stroke. Alternatively, the assemblies may be double-acting so that the crushing stroke is effected jointly by the assemblies and springs 32.
