Abstract
1436531 Shearing; punching L SCHULER GmbH 28 Sept 1973 [29 Sept 1972] 45478/73 Heading B3W [Also in Division F2] A press has an hydraulic damper device, for preventing uncontrolled recoil of the press structure at the moment when a press tool breaks through a workpiece, comprising a cylinder and a piston connected, one to the frame and one to the ram of the press, the piston dividing the cylinder into two liquid-filled chambers normally interconnected to allow flow between the chambers but with means for interrupting the flow and means providing an alternative, throttled liquid path during such interruption. As shown, a pair of pistons 18, each connected to the ram move in cylinders 21 during a working stroke each causing liquid to flow from a chamber 20 into chamber 24 of adjacent cylinder 22, a floating piston 23 to rise and liquid to return from chamber 25 to chamber 19. At a point in the stroke predetermined by adjustment of a stop 28 this liquid exchange stops and liquid is forced to flow through line 11 throttled at 12. Liquid is returned to chambers 25 via a non-return valve by-passing a prepressuring valve 27. A relief valve 26 and accumulator 14 maintain an acceptable pressure level. The period during which the throttles function may be varied by means of shut-off valves 10 actuated by cams 16 on a shaft forming part of the press drive. In a simplified embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the cylinders 22 are omitted and the check valves 10 are located in lines normally allowing liquid flow between the upper and lower chambers of the main cylinders.
