Abstract
1,092,562. Forging presses. DI-DRO ENGINEERING CO. Nov. 2, 1965 [Dec. 31, 1964], No. 46312/65. Heading B3H. A crank type press which comprises a crank driven ram 12 and die 16, a fixed die 18, and a hydraulic cushion 22 operatively connected by rods 28 to a piston 26 movable in a cylinder 24, is provided with an hydraulic circuit connected with the cylinder to absorb shocks sustained by the cushion. A tank 30 supplies fluid at relatively low pressure to the cylinder 24 through conduits 32 and 36 and a one-way valve 40. Upon the die 16 striking the cushion 22, fluid is forced through a pressure relief valve 48, adjustably biased by a spring 54, and returns to the tank 30. A shock absorber 60 including a double spring-loaded piston 64 absorbs the initial shock before the valve 48 opens. Similarly, a shock absorber 80 connected to conduit 32 absorbs the shock when the flow of fluid to the cylinder 24 is suddenly halted due to the piston reaching its upper position. The pistons of the shock absorbers may be free floating with an adjustable fluid pressure exerted on their lower faces.
