Abstract

900,847. Shearing. PACIFIC INDUSTRIAL MANUFACTURING CO. Oct. 11, 1960 [June 6, 1960], No. 34757/60. Class 83 (4). A shears comprises a vertically movable knife 19, a frame 1 with side walls 5 terminating in inclined surfaces 40 on which a front wall 9 carrying a worktable 11 and a horizontal knife 15 is slidable for adjusting the knife 15, an hydraulically-operated wedge 49 for sliding each end of the wall 9, and means 111 for supplying hydraulic fluid to either of the double-acting wedge-pistons 67 for driving it in either direction. Keys 45 on the surfaces 40 engage slots 46 in the wall 9, a wedge 49 being located above each key in the space between bearings 51, 53, and a pointer 59 on the wedge co-operating with a scale 57 on the bearing 51. Cylinders 65 for the wedge-pistons 67 are mounted on the ends of wall 9 and carry screw-threaded end-stops 79 and lock nuts 91 for the pistons, the pistonrods of which have part-spherical heads 73 located with shims 75 in T-slots in the wedges. An hydraulic circuit to hold-down pistons 37 and to a valve 107 connecting the hold-down cylinders 38 to a tank and permitting release of the pistons, includes manually-operated three-position valves 111 between a pump 97 and cylinders 38, check-valves 115 and an overload valve 117. Each valve 111 may be set to by-pass its cylinder 65 or to supply the cylinder at either side of the piston. The blade 19 is moved by a cylinder 35 at each end.
