Abstract

1,172,856. Rolling. DAVY & UNITED ENG. CO. Ltd. 16 May, 1967 [16 May, 1966], No. 21713/66. Heading B3M. A rolling mill includes a wedge unit for adjusting the roll gap, the unit being hydraulically operated for fine gap adjustment and screwoperated for coarse adjustment. A movable wedge member 23 is located between a fixed member 18, abutting a mill housing 14, and a block 24 and spacer 25 adjacent a roll chock 15. The member 23 is operatively connected to an hydraulic piston 27 and cylinder 28, the cylinder in turn being connected to a driving screw 30. The screw is driven by an electric or hydraulic motor. An automatic gauge control system or a system for correcting for roll eccentricity can be asociated with the wedge unit.
