Abstract
1423924 Rolling mills MASCHINENFABRIK SACK GmbH 26 June 1974 [6 July 1973] 28289/74 Heading B3M A roll stand incorporates a beam 8 extending between the windows of the stand housings 2 and carrying mechanical screw-down assemblies which are removable from the stand together with the beam. Each assembly includes a motor driven screw 11 housed in a fixed nut 10 and extending between the chock of an upper roll 4 and a housing crosspiece 2a. Between the head of the screw and the crosspiece is an hydraulic screwdown unit for automatic roll gap regulation. The unit includes a piston 18 which moves in a cylinder 20 in response to fluid supply from a ram 24. A support plate 22 carries the pistons 18 of both units. The units may be removed from the stand together with the beam 8. The beam may carry at its ends bending assemblies for the upper backing roll of a flow-high mill, the beam itself being made resistant to bending.
