Abstract

1,064,992. Shear blades. SIEMAG SIEGENER MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. March 31, 1964 [March 27, 1963], No. 13166/64. Heading B3W. A plate shear comprises a stationary table and a blade carriage movable theretowards by a powered drive to perform the cut, wherein a blade unit of square cross-section is provided for the table and/or carriage and has four cutting edges adapted to be brought individually into the operative position by rotation of the blade unit around its longitudinal axis. The movable blade is moved transversely away from the fixed blade on the return stroke to reduce wear on the cutting edge. A frame 1, 2, 3, 4 supports a crank drive 5 for a reciprocating blade holder 7, which slides in a guide 6 which is pivoted to the frame at its upper end and rotated about its pivot by eccentrics 23. The eccentrics are actuated by hydraulic cylinders 24, through a lever 25. The piston rod 26 of the cylinders is adjustable in length, by means 27, to vary the clearance between the cutters. Each blade unit 10, 12, comprises a square block having a cutter blade 11, 13 on each surface. The cutter units are mounted in recesses 8, 9 in the frame 4 and holder 7, and each unit has a spindle projecting from each end which is engaged by an eye formed on the end of the piston rod of an hydraulic cylinder 17, 18, 21, 22. To bring a fresh cutting edge into the operative position the cylinders 17, 18, 21, 22 are extended, the cutter units rotated through 90 degrees and the cylinders retracted to hold the units in their respective seatings. In a modification there are T-slots in each face of each cutter unit which engage the heads of bolts used to hold the units in position, Fig. 3 (not shown). In a further modification the relieving movement of the movable cutter is produced by a wedge positioned between the cutter unit 12 and the holder 7 the wedge being reciprocated by an hydraulic cylinder at the end of each stroke. An adjustable stop limits the movement of the wedge to determine the cutting clearance between the cutters.
