Abstract

1392022 Shearing J L CHAZEN 13 March 1973 12100/73 Heading B3W A double cut alligator shear to which material particularly large scrap may be fed from either side has a blade beam 14 pivoted to the shear bed 11 at 15 and actuated by a piston and cylinder unit 33, 34 to bring spaced blades 19 on the beam into shearing relation with two spaced fixed plades 21, Fig. 4. The piston-rod 33, pivoted to the beam at 38, is confined throughout its stroke by a guide 27 which is of U-section in plan and rearwardly open. Wear blocks 32 on the beam engage wear strips 31 on each side plate of the guide throughout the shearing stroke and plates 25 brace both sides of the guide. The blades 19 are reversible and consist of sections 19b disposed at an angle to the horizontal greater, preferably by 8 degrees, than sections 19a.
