Abstract

1,087,758. Flying shears. CENTRALNY NAOUTCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT TCHORNOY METALLOURGIY "I.P. BARDINE." July 4, 1966 [Nov. 2, 1965], No. 29892/66. Heading B3W. A flying shear, for cutting continuously cast ingots comprises two blades 9 and 10 which move towards each other, normal to the direction of movement B of the work, one of the blades 9 is fixed to the piston of an impulse chamber and the other blade 10 is mounted on an anvil 5 movable along a chassis 1 which also carries the impulse chamber 3 and which is movable in the direction B. The impulse chamber 3 and a block 4 are slidable on the chassis 1 and are connected by tie-rods 7 which guide the movable anvil 5. There is a rubber shock-absorber block between the block 4 and the anvil 5. The chassis 1 is pivotally mounted at 12 and at its other end is connected to the piston of an hydraulic cylinder 15, the underside of which is supplied with pressure fluid to hold the chassis in a rest position against an abutment 16. Operation.-The piston in the impulse chamber 3 is driven forward by the explosion of a cartridge, or by gas or liquid pressure. The blade 9 moves towards the work and the impulse chamber, tie-rods, block 4 and anvil 5 move in the opposite direction so that the two cutters move towards each other. The cutters are returned by hydraulic cylinders (not shown). As the cutters engage the work the chassis 1 swings about the pivot 12 against the pressure of the hydraulic fluid in the cylinder 15.
