962,018. Cutting girders and like profile bars. E. G. TELFER. April 3, 1962 [April 7, 1961], No. 12835/62. Heading B3W. An air-powered angle and bar guillotine comprises a frame 10, a lower longitudinal member 11 on the frame, a pair of spaced front forks 12, a pair of spaced rear forks 13, a blade arm 25 hinged at its rear end 26 between the rear forks and guided near its front end between the front forks, a lever arm 18 hinged at 19 near its front end, links 37 between the lever and blade arms, a trunnion mounted air cylinder 21 between the frame and the rear end 20 of the lever arm operable to move the lever arm about its pivot and thereby move the blade arm about its pivot, and guillotine blade retaining means on the blade arm and on the lower longitudinal member. The guillotine blade retaining means comprise an upper clamping plate 30 on the blade arm 25 to which both a bar cutter 31 and an angle cutter 32 are secured and a lower clamping plate 37 on which fixed bar and angle cutters 38 and 39 respectively are secured. The air cylinder is controlled by a valve 42 operated by a lever 44. A spring 45 effects the return stroke. A pair of adjustable steadies 47 are mounted on a bar 43. On the other side of the machine is an adjustable stop 54, which is secured to the lever arm 18 so that as the blade arm 25 moves downwardly the stop 54 is lifted by the lever arm 18 clear of the workpiece. A check-valve on the non- operative side of the piston of the cylinder 21 gives an air-cushioning effect. Bending tools may be mounted on extensions 57 and 58 on the blade arm and lower longitudinal member respectively.
