Abstract
1,133,664. Shearing. ZENTRALINSTITUT FUR FERTIGUNGSTECHNIK DES MASCHINENBAUES. 17 Feb., 1966, No. 7009/66. Heading B3W. A bar-cutting shear comprises a tool-guiding structure 1 in which slides a frame 5, the frame having an anvil 31 which is struck by a projection 4 mounted on a disc 3 secured to a rotating shaft 2. A jaw 7 is fixed in the frame 5 and forms with a jaw 8 the movable cutter of the shear. The jaw 8 is mounted on the pistonrod 10 of a piston 11, the cylinder for which is formed by the hollow piston-rod 13 of a second piston 15. The hollow piston-rod 13 is rigidly connected to the frame 5 and the cylinder 14 is mounted on the guiding structure 1. There are ports 18 and 33 for the admission of pressure fluid to the cylinder 14 and there are ports 16 by which the fluid enters the cylinder space above the piston 11. The bar 9 to be cut is held between the jaws 7 and 8 of the movable cutter and extends on each side of the movable cutter between clamps which form the stationary cutters. The clamps are each formed by a pair of jaws (20, 22 and 21, 23), Fig. 2 (not shown), the jaws (20 and 21) being attached to the tool guiding structure and the jaws (22 and 23) being individually actuable by pressure fluid cylinders. Operation.-In the rest position the frame 5 contacts a stop surface 28 and the jaws 7 and 8 are separated by a spring 12. The bar 9 is moved between the jaws 7 and 8 and pressure fluid admitted to the cylinders which close the jaws (20, 21, 22, 23) of the stationary cutter. Pressure fluid is then admitted through the port 18 and passes through the ports 16. The piston 11 then presses the jaw 8 against the bar with a force which is at least equal to the cutting force. At the same time the piston 15 applies the jaw 7 to the bar 9 and produces a preliminary loading in the cross-section to be cut which is approximately equal to the elastic limit of the bar material. Shearing occurs when the anvil 31 is struck by the projection 4. The piston 15 is decelerated by the build-up of pressure in the cylinder space 32.
