Abstract

1378175 Shearing W E BURNAND & SON Ltd 29 Feb 1972 [10 March 1971] 6479/71 Heading B3W A shearing machine has a pair of jaws pivotally connected together and an hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly for pivoting one jaw relative to the other, one of the jaws comprising one arm of a bellcrank lever the other arm of which is connected to one end of the piston and cylinder assembly, the other end of said assembly being pivotally connected to the other jaw or to a part of the machine immediately adjacent the other jaw. As shown, a wheeled machine, particularly suitable for use in a scrapyard, has a fixed jaw 10, carrying a blade 12, and, pivoted to it at 16, a movable jaw 14 carrying blade 18 and comprising one arm of a bellcrank lever, the other arm 20 of which is pivoted at 26 to the piston rod of an hydraulic cylinder 22 itself pivoted at 24 to frame 10. The cylinder 22 lies directly beneath the cutting edge of the blades. Alternatively the lower jaw forms one arm of a fixed member of bellcrank form, the hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly being connected at one end to the free end of the upper movable jaw and at its other end to the upper end of the upstanding arm of the bellcrank.
