Abstract

884,332. Toggle presses. PULLMAX INTER S. A. July 15, 1960 [July 18, 1959]. No. 24800/60. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXII] A mechanical press comprises a hydraulic ram 3 acting on the pivot 25 of a pair of toggle links 4 connected by a rigid rod 5 to the pivot 24 of a second pair of links 6 so located that all the links move in the same plane. The upper links of the pairs are parallel and pivoted to the press frame 9 about parallel axes, and the lower links, which are also parallel, are pivoted to bifurcated members 13, 14 which move and guide the press plate 15. The members 13, 14 are connected to the plate 15 by threaded rods 20, 21 and the position and inclination of plate 15 may be adjusted by handwheels 22, 23. Leftward movement of the piston 3 closes the press and compresses fluid in a variable volume chamber in the cylinder 2 so that energy is stored up for the return movement of plate 15, which movement may be adjusted in length by a valve actuated by an adjustable port mounted in the working pressure mechanism.
