Abstract
1,126,726. Multi-platen presses. NIEDERRHEINISCHE MASCHINENFABRIK BECKER & VAN HULLEN. 2 Jan., 1967 [3 Jan., 1966], No. 29/67. Headings B5F and B5N. A multi-platen press is provided with means 17 for compensating for the weight of the heating plates 5 which are each connected by rods 14 to arms 9 pivoted at 10 to the press frame 1 and at 11 to a rod 12 pivoted to the movable press table 3, the compensating means comprising cylinders 21 (Fig: 3) pivoted at 22 to the arms 9 and pistons 20 slidably connected to the rods 14, the pistons 20 being biased upwardly by hydraulic pressure and being provided' with an hydraulic counter abutment 26 which is actuatedduring press closure butdeactuated during actual pressing. During press closing, a valve 28a is open and valve 28b closed; and fluid under pressure is supplied through conduits 24, 27 to chambers 21c, 21d. Owing to the effective area of piston 26 being greater than that of piston 20, piston 26 is maintained in its lowermost position as shown and limits upward movement of piston 20. When the press is closed and high pressure is to be applied, valve 28a is closed and valve 28b opened so that chamber 21d is depressurized. This releases piston 20 and the weight of the heating plates is balanced by pressure in 21c, the piston-like ends 18 of the rods 14 resting on the shoulders 20b of pistons 20.
