Abstract
706,320. Hydraulic machines. RHODES, C. J. Aug. 2, 1951 [Aug. 17, 1950], No. 20452/50. Class 69 (2). [Also in Group XXII] In a machine for bending, cutting or shearing metal plates comprising a tool-carrying beam, a slidable rod running parallel with the beam, linkages connecting the rod with the beam to raise or lower the beam equally and a hydraulic system for moving the rod, a valve controlling the system is automatically operable when the pressure in the system exceeds a predetermined level to return the beam to its inoperative position. A tool carrying beam is reciprocated by means of a piston 7 in a cylinder 8 fed with pressure liquid under the control of a valve 9. The valve is biased to the position to raise the beam by means of a spring 11 and is connected through links 10, 19 to a bell-crank lever 17 one end of which engages a notch 18 in a trigger lever 14 connected through links 15, 16 to a treadle. The piston rod 27 of a piston operating in a cylinder 26 engages the lever 14. The cylinder 26 is connected to a point in the hydraulic circuit between a relief valve 20 and a choke 23 in the return line to the reservoir. Excess pressure in the system lifts the relief valve 20, pressure is fed to the cylinder 26, and the rod 27 operates the lever 14 whereby the lever 17 is disengaged from the notch 18 and the valve 9 is returned by a spring 11 to a position to raise the beam.
