Abstract

846,829. Guillotine cutting-machines. HARRIS-INTERTYPE CORPORATION. Dec. 19, 1958 [Dec: 19, 1957], No. 41078/58. Class 31 (1). A cutting-machine comprises a work clamp 40 reciprocable by a reversible hydraulic motor 45, the hydraulic circuit to the motor including supply lines 62, 63, Fig. 2, with each of which is connected a pressure control valve 65, 70 respectively for establishing separate pressure conditions for the operation of the motor in opposite directions, the valve 70 being adjustable so that a relatively high pressure is supplied during the clamping operation and the valve 65 being adjustable so that a relatively low pressure is supplied for retaining the clamp in the inoperative position: Pressure fluid is supplied by means of a low capacity pump 41 under the'control of a valve 60 which is normally biased to a position to cause raising of the clamp. The piston 46 of the motor 45 is connected to the clamp 40 by means of a link 48 and a crank 49 secured to a shaft 50. The knife 10 is reciprocable by a reversible hydraulic motor 25 which is supplied with pressure fluid by means of a high capacity pump 31, the hydraulic circuit including supply lines 37, 38, Fig. 2, and a self-centring control valve 30. The valve 30 is operated by solenoids 35, 36 which are energized selectively to cause working and return strokes of the knife. When neither solenoid is energized, the knife is maintained in its inoperative position by relatively low pressure. A valve 34 controls the pressure produced, by the pump 31. The valve 60 is operable by means of a lever 90, Fig. 3, or treadle 92. Following closing of the valve 60, a lever 95 is moved to actuate an electric switch 96 to complete a circuit to a switch 97. The switch 97 is operable by a contact 105 or 106 on a bell-crank 16 to energize solenoid 35 or 36. To eliminate drifting of the knife, when in its inoperative position, caused by fluid leakage from the motor 25, a pressure line 75, Fig. 2, having a restrictor 77 is connected from the output line 58 leading from pump 41 to the side of the cylinder 27 causing raising of the' knife. To ensure that the clamp and knife return to their inoperative positions as rapidly as possible, a valve-controlled pressure line 80, Fig. 4 (not shown), is connected from line 37 at one end to line 62 at the other end, the pressure line 75 being omitted.
