Abstract

1424793 Pruning shears W D GRIFFITH 16 Feb 1973 [18 Nov 1971] 15670/71 Heading B4B An hydraulically powered portable shears comprise a handle 10, 11, a shear head mounted at one end of the handle and including a first blade 17, a second blade 18 movably mounted on the first blade and an hydraulic piston-andcylinder unit 24 connected to the second blade for effecting cutting movement thereof, an hydraulic pump 30 and hose means 28 connecting the pump to the piston-and-cylinder unit. The cylinder 23 of the unit 24 is provided with trunnions 22 which are slidable in slots 21 formed in a socket 15 of the blade 17; the socket is split so that it can be clamped by a lever 16 on a ball joint 13 provided on the handle portion 11. The handle portion 11 is slidable in the portion 10 and locked in an adjusted position by means of a lever 12. The pump 30 is mounted in a tubular handle 35 which forms a reservoir for the hydraulic fluid. A gripping member 26 is pivotally mounted on the blade 17 and is connected by a link 27 to the trunnions 22 for actuation thereby. The hydraulic cylinder is single acting, return being effected by a spring.
