Abstract
1382024 Cutting apparatus E W KBAUSS 7 Jan 1972 [7 Oct 1970] 47684/70 Heading B4B A guillotine for cutting sheet material, e.g. paper or fibreboard comprises a bed 10 for supporting the sheet material, an hydraulicallyactuated clamp 80 for clamping the material an hydraulically-actuated cutting blade 30 and an hydraulic control system for controlling the operation of both the clamp and cutting blade. The cutting blade 30 is mounted on pivoted links 38, 44, Fig. 1, and moved downwardly on its cutting stroke via an hydraulically actuated piston-and-cylinder device 66; the link 44 is adjustable in length by a turn-buckle device 48 and the stroke of the piston in the device 66 is controlled by means of an abutment flange (316), Fig. 8 (not shown) within the cylinder and adjustable externally thereof by means of a wheel 70. The cutting blade is returned to its upper position shown by springs 52, 54. The clamp 80 is guided by bushes 76, 78, Fig. 3, slidable on rods 72, 74, and moved downwardly to clamp the material prior to cutting by a high-pressure hydraulically-actuated piston-and-cylinder device 84 via a linkage 86, 90, 96, 102, 106; the clamp is returned to its upper position by springs 110, 112. The clamp may be moved downwardly for setting purposes by a low-pressure hydraulicallyactuated piston-and-cylinder device 82. The material is fed forwardly under the blade 30 by means of a pusher (128) Fig. 4 (not shown) guided by a bush (130) slidable on a shaft 132 and actuated by means of an hydraulically-actuated piston-and-cylinder device (123, 125); the position of the pusher is indicated by, e.g. an optical device 320, Fig. 1. The cutting edge 50 of the blade co-operates with an anvil 155, Fig. 5, of hard plastics material and mounted within a channel 142, 144, 146 on a metal plate 152 supported on brackets 150; when the plate 155 becomes worn, it may be reversed to present a new surface to the cutting edge. A spare plastics plate 154 may be fitted under the plate 155. In order to easily remove the plate 155 from the channel, an expandable rubber tube 156 is pressurized hydraulically thereby raising the plate 155 so that it can be removed. An hydraulic circuit is described, Fig. 7 (not shown), in which the operator is required to use both hands to actuate valves (212, 214) the downward movement of the clamp 80 and cutting blade 30 then taking place in sequence automatically.
