Abstract

1,162,812. Mechanical presses. PRECISION FORGINGS Ltd. 21 Nov., 1966 [21 Aug., 1965], No. 35967/65. Heading B5F. [Also in Division B3] Means for guiding a press ram 10 for straight line movement between two press frames 12, 13 comprises a pair of primary links 18 pivoted to the ram 10 at points spaced axially of the ram, a pair of links 19, 20 pivoted to one of the links 18 at 21, 23 and to the press frames 12, 13, and a second pair of links 24, 25 pivoted to the other link 18 and to the press frames. Extensions 26, 27 of the links 24, 25 are pivoted to the pistons 28 of counterbalance cylinders 29 themselves pivoted to the press frames at 30. The ram 10 is driven by an electric motor 37 through gearing 36 and a crank-shaft 35. The drive motor &c. are mounted on a sub-frame 38 pivoted at 39 and biased toward its operative position by an hydraulic KC ram. A second set of primary and secondary links may be provided to prevent fore and aft tilting. The press may be arranged horizontally instead of vertically, e.g. for use as an upsetting press.
