In a cutting, creasing and embossing platen press having both a rise and fall guard and a hand trip rail with side guards, the machine clutch is operated electrically under control of a press-button switch when the rise and fall guard and trip rail are in the operative position only, the clutch being de-energized by the opening of a further switch when the trip rail is moved out of operative position.
