Abstract
1,257,759. Machinery safety devices. HARRIS-INTERTYPE CORP. 6 Oct., 1970 [18 Nov., 1969], No. 47469/70. Heading F2J. A double facer machine for making corrugated board, comprising a single face paper board 32 and a liner 36 passing over heated platens 20-26, has a safety device which upon operation moves at least the platen 20 and a tilt plate 28 to an inoperative position. The platen 20 is pivoted at 60 and the plate 28 at 30, the former being held in the position shown by a piston 58 and the latter by a pin 42, Fig. 2, engaging a lever 40. In the position shown, the pin 42 holds the contact 46 open but upon operation of an actuator button 43 the pin 42 is withdrawn from the lever 40 allowing the plate 28 to tilt to an inoperative position and the contact 46 closes the switch 48 of a solenoid 50 which vents the cylinder 56 allowing the piston 58 to descend pivoting the platen 20 to an inoperative position. A further switch 62 activates the solenoid 50 to move the platen 20 alone. In a modification, the further switch actuates also a solenoid to move a piston on the actuator shaft so that the plate 28 is also moved to its inoperative position.
