686,419. Machinery guards. BROUGHTON & SON (ENGINEERS), Ltd., J. June 28, 1951 [June 28, 1950], No. 16089/50. Addition to 612,081. Class 80 (iv). A modification of the invention of the parent Specification comprises the application of the control mechanism thereof to a mechanically operated press having a fluid-pressure actuated clutch. The clutch indicated at 10 is supplied with pressure fluid from a line 14 through a primary valve 12 and a secondary valve 13, the latter being actuated by the pressure from the former but being interconnected with a member 36 secured to the guard 11 so that it cannot be opened to supply the pressure fluid to the clutch if the guard is open. When the guard is closed the valve 13 can be opened and serves to lock the guard in the closed position. The primary valve 12 comprises inlet and exhaust members and is actuated by a control lever 26. A cam device 32 on the machine shaft serves to raise the lever 26 to stop the machine after the completion of each stroke.
