Abstract
576,379. Machinery guards. PHILLIPS & CO., Ltd., J. A., and FIELD, W. April 25, 1944, No. 7698. [Class 80 (iv)] A rock-shaft 1 is mounted in bearings 2, 3 near the foot of the machine and carries an arm 4 connected by a rod or wire 5 with a part causing movement of the guard. Another arm 6 on the shaft carries a roller 7 on which rests the free end of a treadle 8 pivoted at 9. A counterweight 10 maintains the roller in contact with the pedal. Connections to the clutch " scotching" gear are made at 12, in such manner that the clutch cannot be engaged until the guard is in closed position. Another treadle 13 acts upon a roller 16 on an arm 15 to operate the clutch. The guard and clutch are therefore operated comfortably by both feet, the hands being left free for the many operations necessary in a press or other machine.
