Abstract

557,040. Chain guards.. KING, Ltd., G. W., and KING, D. M. March 25, 1942, No. 3979. [Class 78 (v)] [Also in Groups XXIV and XXXVII] A guard for loaded chains, more particularly on electric pulley hoist blocks, consists of an arm 20 pivoted at 24 and spring-pressed to bring a groove 23 in its upper part 21 into enclosing relationship with the alternate links of the chain 11 which lie in a vertical plane. A bail-pin 42 of the positioning spring 40 engages the hooked upper end 43 of the arm 20, the opposite end of the spring being connected to the pulley-block frame 14 or to the correspond-. ing upper end of the opposite arm 20 when such is provided. An adjustable screwed bolt 35 fitted with a locking nut 35a strikes against a frame-mounted stop 36 to limit the chainward movement of each arm 20, and the pivot 24 is mounted on a carrier 25, held to the holder 26 by a U-shaped key 31. If desired a pushswitch 45 may be provided for each arm whereby tilting of the arm by a displaced chain will cause the motor to stop.
