Abstract
626,558. Pulleys. HEIJMAN, H. May 28, 1947. No. 14199. [Class 78 (v)] A device for preventing cables 10 which are passed round pulleys 2 or sheaves, from running off, consists of a mainly V-shaped member, the legs of which form an angle of more than 90 degrees and which can be inserted with one leg 1 as a guarding pin into a pair of opposite bores in the pulley block mounting or in the frame at a small distance from the periphery of the guiding pulley or pulleys and is secured by springing the other leg 7 under a fixed hook 8 or the like on the mounting. As shown in Fig. 4, a single pulley 2 is mounted between plates 3 and 4 on a bolt 5 having a crown nut 6. The leg 1 is inserted in a pair of bores in the plates 3 and 4. The leg 7 is preferably at an angle of about 120 - 145 degrees with the leg 1 and is fixed under one of a number of hooks 8 formed on a washer 9. Two V-shaped guarding devices may be used if the cable 10 makes a bend of 90 degress round the pulley. When more than one pulley is used, one leg of the guarding device may consist of a guard pin 11 having a head 12 to which the resilient fixing leg is secured (Fig. 2). Alternatively, the guarding pin 11 may be provided with an axial bore 13 from the head end into which the leg 1 of the V-shaped member may be inserted.
