[Class 45] [Also in Groups XXV and XXX] A tensioning device for a clothes line or other rope 6 which is anchored at the end not shown, comprises a pulley 2 rotatable in side cheeks 1 pivoted at 3 to an anchored locking-member 4 having an arcuate locking-face 5 that normally clamps the rope against the periphery of the pulley. The free end of the rope is attached to extensions 8 of the side cheeks 1. The line is strained by pulling downwardly on the part A and is released by pulling on the part B.
