Abstract
531,284. Machinery guards. FINE COTTON SPINNERS' & DOUBLERS ASSOCIATIONS, Ltd., and BARNES, G. A. July 17, 1939, No. 20685. [Class 80 (iv)] Consists in a guard for preventing the insertion of an operative's hand or clothing between a belt and fast and loose pulleys driven thereby. The belt A is moved over the pulleys A<1>, A<2> by a fork B<1>, B<2> slidable over a square bar D by a handle b. The boss B of the fork is divided each part carrying one of the arms. The guard C is in the form of a block attached to the strap fork arm B' so that it can be removed with the latter. The block occupies the space at the nip of the belt and pulley and extends close to each. As applied to a carding engine the belt fork co-operates with the usual cylinder door locking mechanism. Thus a fork with arms E<1>, E<2> is pivoted at e the arm E<1> being in the path of a bar F, of the locking mechanism, and the arm E<2> being adjacent to the inner edge of the arm B<2>. When the door F<1> is opened the bar F engages the arm E<1> and causes the arm E<2> to be raised to prevent movement of the fork B<1>, B<2> from the loose to the fast pulley. In a modification, the bar F has a hole into which a projection on the belt fork enters when the belt is on the fast pulley, thus preventing opening of the door.
