Abstract
6436. Roberts, J. T. March 15. Guards, controlling. - I n a combing - machine of the Heilmann or similar type, the cover for the cylinder, brush, and doffer is so mounted as to be locked in position while the belt is on the fast pulley, and removal of the cover causes the belt to be locked on the loose pulley. The guard b, Fig. 1, has one or more wings b<1> resting in suitable slotted bearings, and locked therein when the machine is at work by levers f connected as shown with a sliding bar n, which interlocks with the starting-rod o'. To release the guard, the starting-rod must first be moved to the ' stop ' position, whereby the lever f is freed. This is then moved clear of the guard, as shown in Fig. 5, the bar n being moved simultaneously to lock the starting-rod, and the guard may be taken out. Immediately this is done, a pivoted catch g<3> resting on the guard is pressed by a spring h into such a position as to lock the lever f in the position to which it was moved to clear the guard, and thus to lock the belt on the loose pulley.
