Abstract

12,604. Rushton, J. L. May 28. Guards, controlling.- The cylinder door of a carding-engine is locked by a movable part which clips around the cylinder shaft, and which is carried partly round with it to lock the door when the engine is started. A collar b is mounted on the cylinder shaft a; and a piece e, having an extended arm e', surrounds this collar and is caused to grip it by a spring-controlled plunger i. The arm e<1> carries a pin e<2>, which is adapted to engage in a notch f<1> in a bar f connected to the door arm g. When the engine is stopped and the cylinder has ceased rotating, the bar f can be lifted, raising the pin c<2> against a stop l, the bar when released drops free from the pin and can be slid forward as the door opens. When the door is closed and the engine restarted, the arm e<1> is carried forwards with the shaft a until the pin e<2> engages with the notch f<1>. A wedge arrangement may be substituted for the spring plunger; and the bar f may be released by depressing it against the action of a spring. The bar f may be provided with a second notch f<1> as an additional safeguard. The device may be combined with any known means for preventing the bell from being returned on to the fast pulley as long as the door is open.
