Abstract
17,051. Draper, W., and Grundy, W. July 22. Right to Patent relinquished. Guards, controlling.-In a device for preventing the opening of carding-engine cylinder doors until the cylinder has ceased rotating, a bar c connected to the door arm f is held against longitudinal movement, as long as the cylinder rotates, by the hooked extended arm a<2> of a simple spring a, which frictionally grips the shaft b and tends to rotate with it. When the shaft has ceased rotating, the bar c can be lifted to disengage a notch in it from a projection on the casing g surrounding the locking-device; it can then be released from the hook a<3> and moved forward as the door opens. A pivoted catch k engaging an adjustable projection h on the bar may be used in place of the projection on the casing g. A spring-controlled pivoted arm n is mounted upon the bar c in such a position that, when the door is open, it acts as an obstruction to the return movement of the belt on to the fast pulley. The arm can be moved on its pivot to allow the belt to be placed on the fast pulley for grinding purposes.
