Abstract

10,726. Holland, W. L. May 6. [Coynate Application, 15,586/09.] Guards, controlling.-In devices of the kind described in Specifications 24,707/06 and 10,034/09, for preventing the main cylinder door of a carding - engine from being opened until the cylinder has ceased rotating, and for preventing the cylinder from being re-started while the door remains open, and in which means are provided to free the driving-pulley while the door remains open, to allow the cylinder to be rotated for grinding and stripping purposes, all the necessary locking and releasing movements are effected through the agency of one Bowden or Vine wire, or equivalent flexible or rigid connexions. A box h, Fig. 2, containing a swinging lever i is mounted behind the slotted flange e on the fast pulley. When the pulley has ceased rotating a bar is inserted through one of the slots to operate the lever i, which, through its connexion i<3>, moves a bell - crank lever m, one end of which is connected through a Bowden wire t to the pivoted catch n Fig. 1, and unlocks the door. When the door is open, a spring o returns the bell-crank m, or the catch n falls by reason of its own weight and pushes the lever i back, carrying with it a pin j which is caused to project through one of the slots in the fast pulley. This pin cannot be removed until a key q<1> is inserted, or until the arm q on the door is inserted in the box p to raise the catch n. The swinging lever i may be dispensed with, and a sliding block s, Fig. 7, engaged directly by the arms of a bell-crank lever m substituted for it.
