26,992. Rushton, J. L. Dec. 12. Guards, controlling by movable parts of machinery. - In apparatus for locking the main cylinder door of a carding - engine, a latch d on the door b enters between two pins i<1> of a ratchet catch i mounted on a bar g supported by a bracket f on the bend e of the carding-engine. A spring bolt h on the bar g engages the ratchet catch i and prevents the door from being opened while the main cylinder is revolving. When the cylinder is at rest, a spring pusher m, having a rounded end, may be pushed in between projections k<1> on a ring attached to the main cylinder end. This pusher carries the bar g with it, and moves the pins i out of contact with the latch d. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement in which a segment i<3>, pivoted on the bend of a carding-engine, is substituted for the ratchet catch. When the door is closed a pin i<1> passes behind a latch d' on the door. The segment is locked by a spring catch h entering an inclined slot i<3>. To open the door when the cylinder is at rest, the catch h is moved up the inclined slot by operating the pusher m, and the segment is allowed to turn and release the latch d'.
