8213. Ashworth, E. April 9. Guards, controlling by movable parts of machinery.-Consists of an improvement on the invention described in Specification No. 19,036, A..D. 1904, whereby the door providing access to a carding-engine cylinder cannot be opened until the cylinder is at rest. The bar a, secured by means of a bracket to the door, is flattened at a<1>, and has a hole c which, when the door is closed, is engaged by a spring bolt or stud m<1> on a pivoted lever j, the other end of which carries an adjustable stud k mounted opposite holes h<1> in the driving-pulley h or in its flange. When the cylinder is at rest, the stud k can enter one of the holes h<1>, and the spring bolt m<1>, being at the same time withdrawn from the hole c, allows the door to be opened. The lever j is maintained in the position shown by a spring n, and a stop o limits its motion. When the door is closed, the spring bolt m<1> slides along the incline a<2> into the hole c. The mechanism for preventing the cylinder from being started before the door is closed is described in the above-mentioned Specification.
