Abstract

10,636. Ashworth, E. May 5. Guards, controlling.-In devices for ensuring the closing and locking of doors or guards which shield moving parts of machinery and for preventing re-opening as long as the moving part is in motion, a single locking-lever is used which cannot be fully moved until the belt has been moved on to the loose pulley and until the moving part has come to rest. In applying the device to the door of a carding-engine cylinder, a lever a, Fig. 2, is provided at one end with a projection a<2> to lock into a bar connected to the door, and at the other end with a sector or feeler d as described in Specification 1368/09. An arm e is also mounted on the lever a, and, as the lever is moved, this arm comes into contact with an arm h which can rock about a pin g. This arm h as it moves carries with it a weighted cam k, which is mounted on a yielding support j, and takes it into contact with the fast pulley f. As long as the fast pulley is rotating, it turns the cam k and pushes the arm h back, an extension on the cam spindle engaging the arm h, thus preventing the lever a from being fully moved to release the bar connected to the door. The cam may be carried by a pivoted lever and may be kept up to its work bv a spring. The flexible mounting of the cam allows a full movement of the lever a when the fast pulley is at rest. In place of the cam, a wedge sliding up an incline against the action of a spring may be used. The feeler d acts to lock the belt and prevent its return on to the fast pulley as long as the door is open; or the movement of the lever a may be utilized to actuate mechanism to bring some obstruction into the way of the belt, or to exhibit a signal. Specification 23,628/08, [Class 120, Spinning], is referred to.
