Abstract

28,470. Brooks &. Doxey, and Whitworth, C. Dec. 31. Guards, controlling by movable parts of machinery.-In a locking-device for the doors of carding-engines, scutchers, and similar machines in which the pivoted door arm is locked, when the door is shut, by an eccentric or lever on the strapfork operating rod, and, when the door is open, acts as an obstruction to prevent the return movement of the strap-fork, a pivoted spring or weight controlled catch is placed in the path of the door arm and can only be removed by means of a pin inserted through an opening in the fast pulley. The door A, Fig. 1, is locked by an eccentric disk G, which engages a notch b<1> in the quadrant b at the end of the door arm B, and which is carried by the strapfork operating rod F. As the rod F is rotated, the strap-fork C is moved along the pin c by an eccentric pin E and link e, and the eccentric disk G is moved out of the notch b<1>. A spring or weight controlled catch K is mounted on a sleeve H loose on the rod F, and an arm L on the end of the sleeve H hangs down behind the slotted gauge d of the fast pulley. To release the arm B when the fast pulley is at rest, it is necessary to insert a pin through one of the slots d<1> and tilt the arm L. To enable the belt to be placed on the fast pulley when the door is open, for grinding purposes, the boss c<1> of the strap-fork C is secured by a set-screw c<3> to a bush c<2> keyed to the pin c, so that the strap-fork can be released and turned back out of the way of the belt.
