Abstract

2780. Moulding, W., and Watson, F. Feb. 5. Guards, controlling.-Relates to a locking- device for the door or cover of a carding-engine cylinder which will prevent the door from being opened as long as the fast pulley is rotating, and will prevent the belt from being returned on to the fast pulley as long as the door is open. A finger 2 on the door engages, when the door is closed, an open slot 3 in a disk 4, which is connected to an eccentric sliding link 6 carrying at its other end a cam 7 which is normally close to the grooved pulley 8 on the driving- shaft. On attempting to open the door, the disk 4 is rotated and the cam 7 pressed against the pulley 8, which rotates it and causes the projection 16 to come into the path of the projection 17 on the link 6, and thus prevents further movement of the link and disk. The cam 7 is mounted upon a spring - controlled block 20 sliding in a groove in the link. Should the pulley 8 have ceased to rotate, the cam 7 is not rotated by contact with it, and further motion of the link 6 and disk 4 is allowed, the finger 2 escaping from the groove 3. A sliding link 11 is pivoted to the door arm 10 and carries a projection 13, which, when the door is open, acts as an obstruction to prevent the return of the belt on to the fast pulley, and, when the door is closed, acts as a guard in the angle between the periphery of the fast pulley 15 and the advancing side of the belt 14. According to the Provisional Specification, parts of the mechanism may be boxed in.
