Abstract

3364. Draper, W., and Grundy, W. Aug. 11. Guards, controlling.- In a device for locking the door in the casing of a carding - engine cylinder, a bevel-wheel d, Fig. 2, is mounted on the pin a on which the door pivots, and gears with a bevelwheel f at one end of a shaft g, the other end of which carries an adjustable crank-pin k<2>, which, when an attempt is made to open the door b, is turned into the path of projections m rotating with the fast pulley. The rotation of the shaft g on the opening of the door operates a lever g<1> and slides an obstruction n against the edge of the belt to prevent its return on to the fast pulley until the door is closed. A bolt o with a finger-piece o<1> slides in the casing p and locks into the door arm c. The arm n may be pivoted and spring-controlled to allow the belt to be moved past it on to the fast pulley for grinding purposes. The pin k<2> normally passes beyond the path of the projections m to allow rotation of the cylinder while the door is open; but if it is arranged to stop in the path of the projections m so that the door is closed automatically on the re-starting of the cylinder, it is connected to its shaft g by a clutch to allow movement in the reverse direction.
