26.010. Witham Bros., and Lord, J. Dec. 14. Guards, controlling by movable parts of machinery. -Relates to means for preventing a carding - engine from being started when the cylinder cover is open, and for locking the cover in the closed position when the engine is running. While the cover e is open, a projection or stud b carried by the belt fork a is prevented from entering a hole c, which may conveniently be provided in the casing d, by means of a hinged plate f, thereby keeping the belt h on the loose pulley. When the cover is closed, a finger g pushes the hinged plate aside and allows the belt fork to be moved, when the stud b passes through a slot i on the finger g and thus locks the cover while the carding-engine is running. In Fig. 2 an arm or link g, guided by means of a slot i and pin j, is shown attached to the cover e. When the latter is open, the carding-engine cannot be started, since the stud b bears against the end g<1> of the arm g. When the cover is closed, the stud can enter an enlargement i<1> in the slot i, thus allowing the cylinder to be started and locking the cover.
